Truffle Prices in 2024: Species, Seasons and Market Evidence

Truffle Prices in 2024: Species, Seasons and Market Evidence

Retrospective evidence snapshot: Researched 20 July 2026 with a price-evidence cutoff of 31 December 2024. This article documents selected 2024 observations; it is not a live Price Index, a current offer, a forecast or transaction-specific buying advice.

Truffle prices in 2024 cannot be reduced to one global number. The strongest accepted records are official quotations for Tuber magnatum in Alba and official producer-market observations for Tuber melanosporum in Carpentras. An exceptional charity-auction result is shown separately. No current price, Terra Ross price or later-year observation fills a missing 2024 record.

Quick answer: what did truffle prices in 2024 show?

Official Alba averages for white truffles of about 15-20 g rose from EUR 400 per hectogram on 12 October to EUR 600 per hectogram on 8 December, equivalent to EUR 4,000-6,000 per kilogram by arithmetic normalization. At the Carpentras producer market, monthly Tuber melanosporum quotations were EUR 562/kg in January, EUR 650/kg in February, EUR 233.33/kg in November and EUR 575/kg in December.

Those figures are not one blended range. Alba and Carpentras involve different species, countries, conventions and market stages. The 10 November Alba charity auction also recorded EUR 140,000 for a final lot of two twin white truffles weighing 905 g together, but that winning bid is an event result rather than an ordinary market benchmark.

How to read the 2024 evidence

Every amount below retains its publisher, date, species, unit and evidence class. The categories describe what a source proves and prevent asking prices, quotations and auction bids from being treated as interchangeable.

Evidence classes in this historical snapshot
Evidence class What it records Main limitation
Official institutional average A dated average published by a named truffle institution for a stated species, unit and size basis. Not automatically retail, delivered or transaction-level evidence.
Official producer-market quotation A monthly quotation and estimated quantity at a named producer market. Does not include downstream wholesale, retail, tax or delivery margins.
Narrative producer-market range Quality-linked levels described in an official monthly market commentary. Not a transaction ledger or a universal grade schedule.
Auction result A winning bid for a specified lot at a named event. Exceptional charitable bidding is not an ordinary price per kilogram.
Evidence gap No qualifying dated 2024 observation was accepted for the species and channel reviewed. No range can be inferred from silence or later-year data.

Documented truffle price observations in 2024

The principal evidence table keeps the official series separate. VAT, shipping and duties were not stated by the price sources. All accepted amounts are in euros, so no foreign-exchange conversion was needed.

White truffle prices in 2024: Tuber magnatum

The Centro Nazionale Studi Tartufo price board is the clearest multi-date white-truffle series accepted. It identifies the quotation as official, states euros per hectogram and defines the average piece size as 15-20 g. The series begins at EUR 400/hg on 12 October, holds at EUR 450/hg across four published dates from 19 October through 9 November, then reaches EUR 500/hg on 16 November, EUR 530/hg on 23 November, EUR 550/hg on 1 December and EUR 600/hg on 8 December.

Multiplying each hectogram value by ten produces EUR/kg equivalents without changing the source's market meaning. The resulting EUR 4,000-6,000/kg span is valid only as a summary of those nine Alba institutional averages for the stated piece size. It is not a national Italian retail range and says nothing about delivery, tax or larger specimens. The white truffle guide retains identity, season and culinary-use intent.

Black truffle prices in early 2024: Tuber melanosporum

The January RNM report records 109 kg estimated present at the Carpentras producer market and a monthly quotation of EUR 562/kg. Its commentary describes trade weakening and unsold lots, which is useful context but does not convert the monthly quotation into a transaction-by-transaction dataset.

The February RNM report records 80 kg and EUR 650/kg. It characterizes quality as good and the monthly offer as more than 37% above the five-year February average. The January and February quotations can be compared cautiously because species, market, stage and unit match; they do not establish retail prices elsewhere.

Black truffle prices in late 2024: quality widened the record

The November RNM report gives a monthly quotation of EUR 233.33/kg with 110 kg estimated present. Its narrative says many early lots varied in maturity and quality: less mature material was described around EUR 130-200/kg, higher-quality material up to EUR 450/kg, and later in the month lower-quality material around EUR 120-150/kg while some excellent lots reached EUR 600/kg.

The December RNM report records 186 kg and EUR 575/kg. It describes levels from a EUR 250/kg floor for standard lots to more than EUR 800/kg for premium products. These narrative levels show within-market dispersion; they are not a formal grade table or proof that every quoted level resulted in a completed sale. The black truffle guide retains species guidance.

Summer truffle prices in 2024: explicit evidence gap

EXPLICIT EVIDENCE GAP: No qualifying dated 2024 official quotation, wholesale observation, archived retail offer, marketplace observation or completed transaction was accepted for fresh Tuber aestivum. Current marketplace displays and later-year records were excluded.

This gap means the article creates no 2024 summer-truffle range. The summer truffle guide can explain the species and its use, but it is not used as independent annual price evidence.

Burgundy truffle prices in 2024: explicit evidence gap

EXPLICIT EVIDENCE GAP: No qualifying dated 2024 commercial value was accepted for fresh Tuber uncinatum. Scientific work by Paolocci and colleagues and Weden and colleagues supports a taxonomic caveat around T. aestivum and T. uncinatum; it does not authorize combining commercial labels or inventing a price.

The Burgundy truffle collection provides product context only. Terra Ross product prices are not part of this evidence set.

Bianchetto truffle prices in 2024: explicit evidence gap

EXPLICIT EVIDENCE GAP: No qualifying dated 2024 observation was accepted for fresh Tuber borchii. Undated seller pages, preserved products and 2025 or 2026 examples cannot establish a 2024 fresh-truffle value.

The spring white truffle collection is included only as a registry-backed internal destination. It neither supplies nor validates the annual historical evidence.

Winter truffle prices in 2024: explicit evidence gap

EXPLICIT EVIDENCE GAP: No qualifying dated 2024 observation was accepted for fresh Tuber brumale. A later marketplace season selector or current product page cannot be backdated, and no 2025 value is substituted.

The winter truffle collection provides species and product context without contributing price evidence. The absence of a number is a research result, not an invitation to estimate one.

Seasonal chronology of the accepted record

The evidence follows two different annual cycles. Carpentras records the end of the 2023-24 black-truffle season in January and February, then the opening of the 2024-25 season in November and December. Alba's white-truffle series runs from October through early December. Calendar-year comparison therefore crosses harvest campaigns without treating them as one crop year.

Calendar-year chronology and interpretation
Period Accepted evidence What changed Safe interpretation
January-February Carpentras T. melanosporum EUR 562 to EUR 650/kg; estimated quantity fell from 109 to 80 kg Comparable monthly producer-market quotations at one market.
October-December Alba T. magnatum EUR 400 to EUR 600/hg across nine dates One institutional series for average 15-20 g pieces.
November-December Carpentras T. melanosporum EUR 233.33 to EUR 575/kg; estimated quantity rose from 110 to 186 kg New-season quality and maturity shifted within the same market.
10 November Alba charity auction EUR 140,000 winning bid for a 905 g twin-truffle lot Exceptional event evidence; keep outside ordinary comparisons.

Size, grade and maturity changed what the figures meant

Alba supplies an explicit size convention, so its nine dates describe average pieces of 15-20 g. Carpentras does not provide a formal grade split in the monthly summary table. November and December instead add narrative quality bands, with immature, standard, premium and excellent material associated with very different levels.

Peer-reviewed research on Tuber melanosporum fruitbody traits across a season found temporal patterns in maturity and other commercially relevant traits. That scientific context supports preserving date and quality information, but it does not validate any 2024 quotation or prove the cause of a monthly price movement.

VAT, shipping and duties were not stated

None of the accepted sources provides a delivered-cost calculation. Adding an assumed tax or freight amount would make the record less accurate, not more complete. The correct treatment is to retain the published amount and disclose missing cost fields.

Cost and transaction status by source
Source VAT or tax Shipping and duties Transaction status
Centro Nazionale Studi Tartufo Not stated Not stated Institutional average; no individual transaction claimed.
DRAAF PACA / FranceAgriMer RNM Not stated Not stated Producer-market monthly quotation and narrative; no transaction ledger supplied.
Alba White Truffle World Auction Not stated Not applicable to the comparison Official winning auction bid for a specified charity lot.
Species evidence gaps Not available Not available No accepted 2024 observation; no transaction claim.

Why the figures are not blended into one market range

A single range from EUR 233.33/kg to EUR 140,000 per lot would be mathematically possible and analytically meaningless. It would combine different species, a hectogram-based size convention, monthly producer-market summaries, quality-linked narrative levels and a charity auction.

Comparisons are limited to like-with-like series: dates within the Alba institutional board, or monthly Carpentras quotations for the same species and market. For evergreen explanations of supply, trade, quotations and price formation, use the Black Truffle Market guide. For general cost drivers, see why truffles are expensive.

Research method and source selection

Research began with official producer-market and institutional records, followed by official auction reporting and peer-reviewed scientific context. A price was accepted only when the public source identified 2024, the species or market category, a numeric value and a meaningful unit or lot description. URLs, DOI identifiers and PubMed records were rechecked on 20 July 2026.

The white-truffle board and four RNM PDFs are primary annual market records. The auction organizer is the primary source for its event result. Peer-reviewed sources support taxonomy, authentication, seasonality and market context only. The truffle-authentication study by Segelke and colleagues explains why species and origin claims deserve care, while the truffle-market study by Oliach and colleagues supplies sector context. Neither supplies 2024 prices.

Evidence limitations

The accepted dataset covers two priced species, two named market institutions and one auction. It is not a census of Europe, global wholesale trade or consumer retail. There are no accepted dated commercial observations for fresh T. aestivum, T. uncinatum, T. borchii or T. brumale, and no accepted specialist-retailer or marketplace price row.

The RNM monthly quotation is broader than a transaction ticket, and its narrative bands are not a standardized grade schedule. Alba's institutional averages apply to a stated size basis, not every white truffle. Auction bidding includes scarcity, philanthropy and event dynamics. Scientific studies cannot retrospectively authenticate the identity, origin or grade of lots they did not sample.

No market-size estimate, CAGR, forecast or future price is included. No Terra Ross value and no Price Index production record is used as independent evidence. These exclusions narrow the article, but they protect the historical record from false precision.

Historical snapshot versus a live Price Index

This page is a fixed calendar-year review. Its evidence cutoff is 31 December 2024, and later research only verifies or clarifies those historical records. It does not update when a current seller changes a listing and it should not be used as a live buying quote.

A Price Index has a different job: structured current and historical observations governed by a repeated method, source register and update controls. The Price Index remains outside this package and is unchanged. Readers looking for annual comparisons may use the published Truffle Prices in 2026 article. The repository package for Truffle Prices in 2025 is acknowledged as a separate annual edition, but no clickable link is added because that destination is not recorded as PUBLISHED in the Shopify URL registry.

2024, 2025 and 2026 keyword ownership

This article owns the query truffle prices 2024, dated 2024 evidence and the calendar-year comparison above. The 2025 package owns its own year's records, while the published 2026 article owns dated 2026 observations. Values do not migrate between editions merely because the species name is the same.

The evergreen Black Truffle Market guide retains global supply, trade, transaction and quotation methodology, price-formation factors and ongoing black-truffle market analysis. Species guides retain identity, season and culinary use. The live-data intent of the Price Index remains distinct from every retrospective article.

Frequently asked questions

What were white truffle prices in 2024?

Official Alba averages for 15-20 g pieces ran from EUR 400/hg on 12 October to EUR 600/hg on 8 December, equivalent to EUR 4,000-6,000/kg within that specific series.

What were black truffle prices in 2024?

Carpentras monthly producer-market quotations were EUR 562/kg in January, EUR 650/kg in February, EUR 233.33/kg in November and EUR 575/kg in December.

Was EUR 140,000 a normal white truffle price?

No. It was the winning charity-auction bid for a specified 905 g twin-truffle lot and is not an ordinary per-kilogram benchmark.

Are the Alba and Carpentras figures directly comparable?

No. They cover different species, countries, units, conventions and market stages, so they remain separate.

Do the quoted prices include VAT, shipping and duties?

The accepted sources do not state complete tax, shipping or duty treatment, so no delivered-cost claim is made.

Is there a verified 2024 summer truffle price?

No qualifying dated 2024 observation was accepted for fresh Tuber aestivum, so this article creates no range.

Is there a verified 2024 Burgundy truffle price?

No qualifying dated 2024 commercial observation was accepted for fresh Tuber uncinatum.

Is there a verified 2024 bianchetto or winter truffle price?

No qualifying dated 2024 observation was accepted for fresh Tuber borchii or Tuber brumale.

Are official market quotations completed transactions?

Not automatically. The RNM figures are monthly producer-market quotations, while only the organizer's auction award is labeled as a completed auction result.

Is this article the live Terra Ross Truffle Price Index?

No. It is a fixed retrospective snapshot with a 31 December 2024 cutoff; the Price Index is a separate controlled data system.

Sources and verification

Principal price evidence comes from the official Alba price board, the Carpentras RNM reports for January, February, November and December, plus the official auction result.

Scientific context was checked against Garcia-Barreda et al., Segelke et al., Oliach et al., Paolocci et al. and Weden et al.. Full claim mapping and access limitations are retained in the package source audit.
